AboutI'm a musician who works across a number of sectors including performance, composition, research and education. I currently teach at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music for the Young Con programme, lecture in the tertiary programme, and examine in piano and theory for the AMEB. I play piano, harpsichord and pipe organ, and have collaborated with soloists, choirs, dancers and instrumental ensembles. Currently, I am also the pipe organ scholar for St Andrew's Uniting Brisbane, sponsored by Musica Viva. I compose, arrange, and record my own music, some which has been published by Wirripang. My research has been in education, musicology, Australian music, church music, and the music industry. I have published articles and presented at national and international conferences. I have taught in pre-school, school, university and studio settings. I have also adjudicated, run workshops, edited musical scores and books, and my fingers have even made an appearance in a film.

I guide students to develop their technique and artistic expression so they can use the piano as their own tool for musical communication. I want every student to experience the pleasure of playing the piano while gaining an understanding of its diverse repertoire and expressive opportunities. I collaborate with students and their parents to establish personalised goals which make sure that each student’s learning experience is meaningful and matches their individual needs along with their interests and abilities. I accept students from varied backgrounds and modify my instructional strategies to empower and motivate each learner. Students at my studio explore diverse repertoire while developing skills in improvisation and composition and trying other keyboard instruments including the pipe organ and harpsichord. Students receive regular performance opportunities to help develop their confidence and experience in playing. My primary goal is to establish and develop a lifelong love of music with each lesson I teach. |
