Teaching Philosophy

I believe that all people need music and I know from experience that students grow through the study of music. I guide students to develop their technique and artistic expression so they can use the piano as their own tool for musical communication. I want every student to experience the pleasure of playing the piano while gaining an understanding of its diverse repertoire and expressive opportunities. I collaborate with students and their parents to establish personalised goals which make sure that each student’s learning experience is meaningful and matches their individual needs along with their interests and abilities. I accept students from varied backgrounds and modify my instructional strategies to empower and motivate each learner. Students at my studio explore diverse repertoire while developing skills in improvisation and composition and trying other keyboard instruments including the pipe organ and harpsichord. Students receive regular performance opportunities to help develop their confidence and experience in playing. My primary goal is to establish and develop a lifelong love of music with each lesson I teach.
