The Romantic Orchestra

Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker Suite is an imaginative orchestral work from the Romantic period that was made into a ballet.

It was first performed in 1892 in St Petersburg. The music uses an interesting range of orchestral instruments to communicate characters and scenes from the ballet's storyline (synopsis).

In this Unit of Work, we will be exploring this piece through the concepts of Tone Colour and Structure.
